Raw Hide: Horse, Elk, Deer or Bison. Choose the hide of the animal you are most aligned with or have a totem with. In Colorado, I recommend Horse hide, it performs very well and has a deeper tone. Go to the bottom of this page to learn more about these animal totem meanings.

Deer Symbolism

Compassion, regeneration, sensitivity. Emotionally sensitive, deer people tend to be quiet, gentle, empathic, spiritually well-attuned. Deer medicine teaches people to fully open themselves to the world, physically and emotionally. From this, they gain incredible power and experience, but give themselves a balancing weakness, the chance of being hurt, at the same time.

Buffalo Symbolism

Community, sacrifice, wisdom. The buffalo is an intense symbol of life and abundance. Buffalo people are often wise leaders, good providers and gentle in nature but firm in resolve.

Horse Symbolism

Emotional intelligence, freedom, wisdom. Horse people often find a happy balance between strong social and family ties and a fiercely independent streak. Horse medicine is full of gentle healing, nurturing care, and a sense of freedom of body and mind.

The Elk as a Symbol of Strength and Endurance

Native American cultures celebrate the elk for its remarkable strength, endurance, and nobility. Tribal traditions often portray the elk as embodying bravery and masculinity, qualities highly valued within these communities. The impressive antlers of the elk carry deep symbolic meaning, representing regeneration and renewal within the natural cycle of life. These magnificent racks, which are shed and regrown annually, serve as a powerful reminder of nature's continuous cycles and the possibility of personal rebirth. Many tribes view the elk as a guardian of the forest, emphasizing its role in maintaining the delicate balance of the network and demonstrating the inter-connectedness of all living beings.
